Guacasalsa

Here’s a recipe for both Salsa and Guacasalsa using the ingredients from your list:

Ingredients:

  • 2 ripe avocados
  • 1 large tomato, diced
  • 1/4 cup red onion, finely chopped
  • 1 jalapeño pepper, seeded and finely chopped (adjust for heat preference)
  • 2 tablespoons fresh cilantro, chopped
  • 1 clove garlic, minced
  • Salt to taste
  • Pepper to taste

Instructions:

For the Salsa:

  1. Combine Ingredients:
    • In a bowl, combine the diced tomato, finely chopped onion, jalapeño, minced garlic, and chopped cilantro.
  2. Season:
    • Season with salt and pepper to taste. Stir well to mix everything.
  3. Let it Marinate:
    • Allow the salsa to sit for about 10-15 minutes to let the flavors meld together. This isn’t mandatory but enhances the taste.

For the Guacasalsa:

  1. Mash the Avocado:
    • Cut the avocados in half, remove the pit, and scoop the flesh into a separate mixing bowl. Mash the avocado to your preferred consistency, whether chunky or smooth.
  2. Add Salsa to Avocado:
    • Take about 1/3 to 1/2 of your prepared salsa (depending on how much salsa flavor you want in your guacamole) and mix it into the mashed avocado.
  3. Adjust Seasoning:
    • Taste the mixture. If necessary, add more salt or pepper. Remember, the salsa already has seasoning, so you might not need much more.
  4. Mix Gently:
    • Mix gently to combine, ensuring not to overmix if you prefer a chunkier texture.

Serving:

  • Salsa: Serve as is with chips, tacos, or as a topping for grilled meats or fish.
  • Guacasalsa: This dip can be served alongside or instead of traditional guacamole. It’s great with chips, on burritos, or as a spread in sandwiches.

Tips:

  • If you find the guacasalsa too mild or too spicy, you can adjust by adding more or less salsa to the avocado.
  • The guacasalsa will brown quicker than traditional guacamole due to the added tomato, so if not serving immediately, cover with plastic wrap pressed onto the surface to minimize air exposure.
  • For a zestier flavor, you could add a bit of lime juice to both the salsa and guacasalsa, though it’s not included in your ingredient list.

Enjoy your dual-dip party with Salsa and Guacasalsa!
